Yorkshire is full of quirky, and in this case, rude names. The name slack is an old norse name referring to a small valley or depression in the ground. Though only a small residential and unmade street it has two fine facilities. At the eastern end is the Buttershaw Lane Fish & Chip Shop (the one storeyed property in the top photo).
